The msn virus

First off, I don't have the virus myself, so I can't give too many details. Just trying to help a friend.

Recently, a LOT of people on my msn contact list have gotten a virus (not from me though, I'm 100% sure :p) that manifests itself in that it says something along the lines of "Hey, check my new pictures" or "Is this you in this picture?" and then sends a small zip file (52 kb size if I'm not mistaken).
Apparently, anti-viruses won't remove it.
Anyone know which virus it is and what can be done about it?

I can try getting anti-virus logs and such if needed, I think.

Wow, I haven't heard of the virus, but I predicted something like this a LONG time ago. Someone I knew downloaded some web game that would hijack AOL and advertise to your friends the game, and I remember telling him that this could be real bad if someone tried to spread a virus with the same technology.

ooh....that is pretty hardcore, I expected something a while back in ICQ and Xfire to replace the files that other users have sent you.

The first thing to try for anyone who thinks they've got MSN-related malware is Msncleaner.

Download MsnCleaner_eng.zip from here, but don't use it yet.
http://www.forospyware.com/Msncleaner/MsnCleaner_eng.zip
(Copy/Paste the URL into the address bar or use "Save Target As")

    • Now reboot into Safe Mode
    • Double-click MsnCleaner_eng.exe to run it.
    • Click the Analyze button.
    • A report will be created once after you finish scan.
    • If it finds an infection, click the Deleted button.
    • Now, please reboot back to normal mode.
    • Please post the contents of C:\MsnCleaner.txt in a reply to this post.
