The Next New Processor?

So when will the next processor be out? Should I buy X6800 conroe now or wait for it until dx10 comes out? Or by that time some new processor will be out? My Budget is 3k.

With a 3K budget, geez! Dx10 will mainly effect your graphics card so stick with your current system and get a Conroe! Maybe even consider adding an extra 2gig of RAM!

The two DirectX 10 cards are currently the ATI R80 and the nVidia G80 and you'll easily have enough money to get one :)

I already have e6600 right now. I dont want it to limit my cpu when I buy the dx10 cards. This is why I think to be on the safeside I should get the x6800 conroe overclocked with highest multiplier.

dude, your CPU right now isnt really a big "chokepoint", you have about the third fastest on the market, dont worry about it. Just get a DX10 card and if you lag, tell us.

an e6600 can probably be overclocked to 3.4ghz on stock voltage... meaning its the same thing as an x6800 just underclocked a bit for those who dont know how to overclock.
yea if i were you i'd add a 150gb raptor to your current one for a raid 0 array... think, one 300gb w/ total of 20krpm hard drive with a full sata2 bandwidth and 32mb worth of buffer.
then, i'd get an extra drive, say 500gb? for storage... because raid 0 isn't the most reliable thing out there.. though it does add performance. maybe even make that a 500gb external! lol

btw nice cooler, and nice video card...
personally i'd wait for DX10 to do anything with that video card, it should pretty much handle any game on super high settings easily... i know my 7900gtx 512 does...
so basically the only thing i would ever improve about that rig is drive performance (not that it even needs it) and storage size. i mean i almost filled my 80gb just with progs so im adding another soon... and ive got a 250gb storage drive thats 1/3 filled... so thats around 150gb right there, and what if you want to reformat to keep performance up? i mean, you wouldnt want to sit there burning dvds for hours just getting videos and such backed upp... thats why i got myself an extra drive so i could reformat my system/program drive.

overall i'd wait, even with the current core 2 duo's people are overclocking them to 3.4ghz and beyond quite easily... intel is probably just selling it at lower clocks at first so they can milk the architecture for what its worth, especially in comparison with AMD's line of processors.
i mean if they release a new x**** core 2 duo in a year from now, say maybe to compete with AMD's K8L, then they didn't actually spend any money on research, they just started releasing the core 2 duo again with a higher max upward multiplier.
they're playing the market, for all we know they're going to wait another month and then release a core 3 duo at 4.2ghz lol
not likely, but im just sayin. haha
