Ok here is the final post before I order. Thought I'd do a new one so you don't have to go through the 3 pages of THIS post.

If there is anything else I will need to assemble this or any last minute tweaks, go for it. I'd like to order this tonight or tomorrow morning so I can put it together this weekend. Thanks again for all the help!

Ok, I guess I can order it first thing in the morning then. Just want to make sure I am not forgetting anything!

yeah looks good dm, i have used the lite on 24x, its great drive for its price range beats my samsung 22x in everyway even right down to the speed the tray opens, good memory choice too

Ok it is ordered! I hope you around this weekend if I need help! Hehe. Any tips? Do I need to update the BIOS before I do anything? Any order to install things, or is that sticky on this forum pretty accurate? I have noticed in other computers, that all the extra power cables from the PSU are just in a big mess. Since this PSU is at the bottom, do you just bunch them up down there, or do they fit behind the motherboard as well? Thanks again for all your help!

With that case, you should be able to tie a good many of the cables behind the motherboard. There probably won't be room for all of them though, so you can either tie the extras up and put them on the bottom in front of the power supply, or stuff them in the bottom of the hard drive cage and use the 2.5" adapter that comes with it to hold them down. I have an NZXT M59, which is the same chassis, and I ended up stuffing mine in the hard drive cage. Of course, that was partially because it has a window...you'd probably do fine either way.

As far as the build order, I found it easiest to put the PSU in first, then the mobo, then the RAM/CPU/heat sink, then the drives. Some people like to put the RAM and CPU/HS on before they put the motherboard in, but I think it just gets in the way.

The one annoying part of managing the cables is the 8-pin CPU power connector. You can either run it behind the motherboard tray and out through the hole for the CPU backplate, or run it around the front of everything. the former has it stuck between the mobo and the case, but not too hard...that's the route I took. But again, I have a window, so I was trying to make it look pretty.

Does that BIOS need to be updated right away, or do I see if it works fine without doing that?

You shouldn't need to update the BIOS. Chances are there isn't an update yet as the board is virtually brand new

And one other thing before I get this tonight. From what I have found, it seems like it is mostly just plugging the components together. Is that about right, or are there certain jumper settings or anything that I will need to be aware of?

Nah, jumpers went away when SATA became the standard. Just hook it all up and you're good to go. :good:

Awesome! Sounds pretty simple. Just curious what anitvirus progam you use. I have been using avast and I guess its working well. I know I can get free Norton with internet subscription, but from what I have read, the free ones are just as good or better because they dont slow down anything. Is that the case?

It is really simple. :)

There are some really good paid ones, but Norton isn't one of them. It's a lot better than it used to be, though.

Avast is pretty good, though its audible messages bug me. I use Microsoft Security Essentials, personally. It uses very few resources and is pretty effective, and best of all it runs completely in the background...no annoying "HEY I'VE JUST UPDATED MYSELF" messages. I also run Malwarebytes once in a while just in case MSE misses something.

Awesome! And thanks to these forums, I know I will have plenty of help. So the people that have these CPU coolers, is it because they are overclocking, or because of the higher end video cards that produce more heat? Is that why they need them instead of the standard issue heatsink?

Most of the time it's for overclocking, but some people do it to lower the noise level, or just for bragging rights. They do look pretty cool, haha. :D

Unless your rig is just unbearably noisy, which I doubt, you'll be fine. :)

edit: However, your CPU does have that "turbo boost" function that essentially overclocks the CPU a bit when it's running cool enough to do so. An aftermarket cooler would help it stay faster for longer, if that makes sense. Again, though, it's not necessary.

Ok I got the stuff and am starting to work on it now. So first off, the power supply fan goes downward, is that right? It will be standing on wood inside of a cabinet, but that seems like there would be more airflow if it were facing up. But I am sure there is a good reason to face it down so you will probably tell me that! :)

And as far as all the wires coming from the front of the cabinet, is it best to just run those behind the motherboard? Should everything go behind the motherboard if it fits?

If it faces down, the PSU pulls cold air from underneath the case, rather than warm air from inside. The feet on the case leave enough room for airflow. You can mount if fan-up if you want to, though...it won't hurt anything. There won't be a lot of heat in there anyway. :good:

Most everything should go behind the mobo tray, or at least behind the drive cage. There will be some PSU cables that won't. The way that the hard drives are mounted actually makes it necessary to run the cables around back, though. You don't have to be anal about it if you don't want, but you should try to get a good bit of it back there so it's not hurting your airflow and isn't in the way if you make any hardware changes. Plus, it looks pretty. :P

Here's what my M59 looked like before I put my 5770 in...it's the same as the challenger:

I've got a window though...yours doesn't really need to be quite so neat unless you just want it to. I'd actually put a lot of the stuff that's under the hard drive in front of the PSU if it wouldn't be visible. I can barely get my right side panel on...haha. I'll try and find a picture of the back of it so you can see what I did.

edit: Some pics of peoples' cable management, to give you some ideas. Most of them are the Gamma/M59, but it's all the same.

Ok great. May as well do it down then since it is not on carpet. If I can remember to clean that filter though once in awhile since I have never had to do that before, or is it that important?

I noticed on that 8 pin connector, that from the power supply it has 2-4 pin connectors that go in there. I tried them and they do fit, however a couple of the pins don't match up. Like there is a connector that has the angle but the plug on the board is square. It fits in there though, and it is the only way it goes. Is that right?

And I would imagine I just use the regular SATA 3Gb ports (light blue) on the board since nothing I have is 6Gb, right? And I don't believe there is a place to plug in the eSATA port from the front panel.

You've got it in the right spot. :good:

What's going on with that connector is that it's actually two in one. The pinout on an ATX12V connector(4-pin) is the same as half of an EPS12V(8-pin) connector, but they're physically a bit different. I believe that half is the one that goes in when you only have the 4-pin.

Ok great. Nevermind the last comment about the esata port. I guess it just plugs into one of the sata ports on the motherboard :) So I will just be using all the light blue ones then right? You are right, this is pretty easy, I am just trying to figure out how to route the wires. That looks like the hardest part! And that 8 pin routing is tricky. I might just have to run it out the hole near the 24 pin plug and run it along the top of the board. I was going to try to squeeze it between that fan and the board but it is not quite long enough. I hope you arent staying up this late on account of me! haha.
