Okay, so I've been wondering this for some time now. I did an initial google search but found nothing:

besides windows, unix/linux based OS, and mac OS, what operating systems are available if any?
 
Well, meh. Not really. I know that there have been several different operating systems over the years, but I mean as of now. What is an option someone could try that wasnt windows or mac? you know what I'm saying. I did notice that google chrome OS though, that could be interesting
 
Other then Windows and OSX the next would really be Linux. There are so many distros out there it is crazy and not all are the same unless they are based on the same package. Like if you want one that looks and runs differently then the ones based on the Debian package (i.e ubuntu) look into Arch Linux, really nice looking and if I was not going to run Ubuntu that would be my next pick because it kind of has a fresh look for the interface.

If you're really desperate, you can make your own from scratch :D
 
Yeah but that is a lot of work and even then he will need some code to baise it off of, like Linux kernal. Creating some new form of code would take a high level of code and take forever for one person, but I guess that depends on what he design's it for.
