My notebook is asus, 2GB memory, AMD mononuclear M120 CPU, but I installed 64-bit system, use up speed is a bit slow, plus a lot of asus drive, the velocity will more slowly, now I can't change 32-bit, because I 64-bit software has been installed a lot, using 32-bit system of words, many software must reinstall! Ok, your problem is that you installed a 64 bit OS, (Windows 7?) and everything's slow. Well, if it's Windows 7 or Vista, just wait a few days. A few days of normal usage will eventually stop the constant HD accessing and will speed up the system somewhat. Both x86 and x64 versions do this, it's because Windows Search is indexing all of the files on your HD.
