the REAL difference between PC-2100 and PC-4000 (for example)

If I were to build a computer, and had a choice between 256MB PC-4000 RAM, and 512MB PC-2100 (where my FSB is 333mhz)

Which would show me better performance for power-gaming, like Doom 3, Half Life 2, Sims 2, Everquest 2.

(wow, sequels)

plz help

it would depend on what type of memory you have on your mobo know. the pc 2100 has a lower bus speed and slow it down. stick with the faster one. you are better of that way.

well it'll probably lag though if you are also running xp which will already take half of ur 256mb so either stick one more 256mbx2 or something.

personally i would just get 512 of PC3200. 256mb isnt enough even if it is fast. you could get the 4000 and then plan on buying another 256stick. that would be a good idea...but if you have no planns on upgrading then i would get 512mb of PC32000, PC2100 is too slow IMO.

If those were the options id look at the mobo again. Not many mobos support PC3200 and PC2100 simultaneously, and those that do often arent so great in general

Neither. The 256MB, while fast, would be choked out considering something like Doom3 throws 800MB of crap around all the time. The 512MB wouldnt be very great because its too damn slow :p

Indeed -- also have a look at the mobo again.
