Hi everyone, got a new problem. My sis just got a sudden urge of playing this sims game, and ofc she has collected all the CDs.. So I start to install the first game on my comp, works fine, then I start to install the "on holiday" version. When the setup boots up I get a "You need atleast 64mb of availible RAM for this game to run properly" and yeah... I got 8gbs of RAM.. then when I move forward in the installation I cant continue because it says that I don't have the CD in the drvie.. Yes, the CD is in the drive.. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks.

There have been many problems (mostly compatibility) during installing/gameplay on vista.
Try this, but I'm not sure it will work if the installation opens many programs to install the games. It worked for me for my soundcard driver when i had vista :D.
Launch explorer and go to the cd drive. Find the executable installer, right click and select "Compatibility" - "Windows XP".
It may/may not work.
Also there may be 64-bit related problems. You should write to EA support maybe they can troubleshoot your problem, since it's their game.

I fixed the installation problem, though I'm facing a new one now. I've installed all the expansions that I have, except unleashed and Hot date. Now when I try to start this little windows appears, its normal, the sims makin' magic thingy, after that the screen goes black for a few secs and the game exits. I've tried running it in every compability there is and as admin.. Anyone? :>

if you got 8gb ram, why not just run the sims in xp under vmware, it only needs like a 4mb video card so it should be fine

Oh try putting this too a short cut -r if that doesn't work try -w

And vmware costs money?

EDIT:
This is my current command line in the shortcut: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Maxis\The Sims\Sims.exe" Where do I add the -r -w?

EDIT2:
I tried the vmware player though I cant open the sims with it.. What am I doing wrong?

you need to install xp or 98 or whatever inside it, then run it in that OS
its like a fake machine within a real one

with regards to the command line switches, go into the properties of the shotcut and the bit that says "Target:" should be made to say the path inside the " " and the switches at the end, outside the " "

Sorry but I'm not very clever.. Like this? "C:\Program Files (x86)\Maxis\The Sims\Sims.exe" -w ??

Doesnt work.

When I added the -r or -w the screen didnt go black. I just got up that windows saying "The Sims Makin' Magic"
The game didnt start.

Make sure theres a command like 1024x768 or 800x600 practically on the start menu on the sims make a shortcut of 1024x768 or 800x600

wait a second... I thought you have Sims 2 with expansion packs, but you in fact have sims 1 with expansion packs. That is incompatible with vista. Last windows to work on was windows xp.
You can use Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 to emulate it, it's free. While VMWare is more like a "Pro" emulator (instalation has about 200 MB), Virt PC is making it quick (instalation has about 20-50 MB). Best is to install windows 98 on the virtual machine because sims 1 will work on it.

My sis can run it on her x32 vista comp, though it's VERY laggy. I'll try the emulator, I should have a Windows 98 CD here somewhere o.O''

It says it doesnt support vista home premium OS but it still starts up.
Now how do I do this? Like in the VM player? Install the windows 98 CD inside the program? And how do I do that?

EDIT: I got win 98 installed, it said it was 20 mins left on the install but it stopped and rebooted, and when I got back this is what I got up:

I cant watch the image, not sure if you can either, here's a link too it:

I had 3200mbs of free memory before and it took up all of it.. :s

It's in swedish but I think you know. This is what the memory thingy in the upper left corner says:

Physical Memory (MB)
Total: 8189
CacheStored: 3468
Free: 7

Sun VirtualBOX is good, its free, and best of all, you can configure GPU RAM etc, install XP or even 98 onto that, and it will play the sims rather well. Thats actually a very good idea, why didn't I think of doing that! :P

Ok it's working now. Only one question.. Since it's windows 98, will my 9800GTX graphic card work?

EDIT: A new problem, YAY! When I have windows 98 emulated on the program, I put the sims CD in the drive, and nothing happens. I go to My Computer, Press the CD drive thingy but the windows 98 install folder pops up.. ? What's wrong?

If you use the Microsoft Virtual PC, after opening the newly-created virtual machine (you should check out the settings first to see if there is enough RAM allocated, at least 64 MB for that game) there are in the CD menu all the cd/dvd-rom drives that show in my computer. Select the one with the installation and reboot (right alt+r to reboot, right alt+delete for the alt+ctrl+delete combination). That should make the program see the cd.

Fixed it! I right clicked on the image and chose "eject" then I took out the CD and put it back in and it worked. Thanks for all the help guys
