Hi, I was wondering if anyone could supply any information of the insides of the wirless card slot, particularly on Sony laptops. When dropping the laptop the card was jammed in breaking something inside. Now the card does not stay in the slot, instead it is loose and just falls out.

Can it be repaired cheaply (ie: 1 new component inside) or is it a massive job.
Can anyone point me in the direction of the component I might need.

Thanks for any help.

Basically any laptop should use a miniPCI slot. There's really no easy way to change it without removing it and resoldering it(basically impossible my hand).

An alternative would be a USB or PC-Card/PCMCIA slot wireless card.

Ok thanks very much,

Do you know if there is any difference in the quality of connectivity between the traditional method I've been using and the USB wireless option?

USB connections have a spotty connection issue. Meaning they randomly drop their connection, but it doesnt happen on all pcs... This sounds like your only option though.
