P.S. Its for home recording (on one hard drive) and gaming/internet on the other. I want it to last me, gaming wise, for a good while.

all sounds pretty good, although that3200+ is getting a little dated, perhaps splash out a bit more for a 3500 or higher....?

Thats an awful lot of ram, I think thats just a waste, as you wont get any use of 4 gigs of ram, 1 gig should be more than enough for todays applications. Could always upgrade later.

there not much difference between the 3200 and the 3500, and the 3200 is definatly not dated

he is getting 1 gig, the bit were it says 4gig is describing the number of slots (and max amount) the motherboard has (hence the reason it is surrounded on both sides by
Frontside Bus 2000 MT/s

I didn't think the 3200 was dated...you can only go up to about 3700 commercially at the moment cant you?? It is just 1gb of RAM no more, you're right 4gb probably would be a little over the top! But aside from that, does it all sound ok? Graphics card and all? No soundcard because i have an Audiophile 2496 that i will be transferring from my old computer.

Well I've only got a choice between:

128mb Radeon X300SE (PCI-Ex)
256mb GeForce 6600 (PCI-Ex)
256mb Radeon X700 (PCI-Ex)

From cheapest to most expensive. I guess the last would be the best...is it a decent graphics card?

at time of writting single core performance rating goes up to 4000+, dual core goes to 4800+. But then that just the performance rating.
256mb Radeon X700 (PCI-Ex)
thats an ok card. Will run most new games, but not at the highest quality though :D

Well thats if you stay with Socket754 ... Socket939 platforms scale out to the DualCore 4800s

A fair shot between the 2nd last two ... personally i'd buy my own videocard and pop it in myself if those were my only choices

Sigh! Ok, my card budget is about £150-£200, what would you recommend?
Holy crap ... with that budget and you were planning those cards? 6800GT or X800XL as a baseline.
