Alright, so im in a bit of a dilema right now. Because of my stupidity of buying a laptop rather than a desktop for gaming....recently I bought an Alienware M17 for 3,300$. Pretty built. I was unsatisfied with it and can only play games on MEDIUM graphic settings and still have alittle lag/skipping when moving; or even moving the mouse around.

Heres the deal. I called alienware telling them I want to ship it back. The guy im talking to said theres two options. You can ship it back and pay for shipping and the restock fee of 15% (so 15% of $3,300 is about 400+, not including the shipping fee). Theres that option. My other option is to fix up my current desktop (XPS 600) which is roughly 2 years old. Fix that up completely (new everything). OR...he is willing to do me a deal and let me trade my laptop in for a desktop of the same or more price range than I payed for the M17.

So what do I do? Ship it back and suffer the loss of the restock fee and shipping...ship it back and with the money from the M17 completely rebuild my XPS 600....or buy an Alienware Desktop (between a Aurora full build or a X58 Wartime pretty fully loaded). Either way, im screwed in reality because I lost money in the long run. Im starting not to give a crap anymore about that, I just gotta figure out wtf im gonna do, so I need your help!

You already have the money invested, so I would just do the trade.

Choose the option that will cost you the least expense.

Would a 12gb memory be that big of a difference between a 4gb or an 8gb?

Should I go AMD or Intel route?

And whats the deal with Dual graphic cards? Having two of them? Whats that mean? Can someone explain this over getting a single graphics card?

Get the laptop back, Trade it/ buy desktop seperately...

alienware is way overprice... I customize one of their core i7 PC, it come to $1650, while you get one pre-build at newegg with similar spec, it comes $1100...

However, I have no idea what $3300 Desktop they given to you. Ask them for the spec, if the components not worth more than $2600, it is not worth trading

Personnaly...I would ship the laptop back and suffer the re-stocking and shipping fee. That would get you a return of about $2,600.

Sell Dell XPS 600 on ebay...might get $400-$600 depending on the specs.

Once these two actions are complete you will have about $3000. Then I would build a sick i7 rig for about $2200 and save the other $800. You will loose money but that's life...lesson learned.

I would do these actions just to be free and clear of Alienware, no laptop, no desktop nothing! In the end you'll have a game crushing custom build that YOU made:)

What are you nuts its a no brain'er? Ship it back, the money could build you a nice rig.
That and dude you have to argue with them over the phone. Trust me iv gotten that fee waved before. I'm not saying they will, but try to talk em down.
Im also going to have to tell you your a NoOb for buying from alien ware.
Lesson learned I guess.(I just have to give you crap about it)
