The Video OC

Ok, new to the Vidoe OC. Since I have OC'd intels and am working on mastering the AMD OC now, figure I should start with the Video.

Couple questions to start off...

Should I use the OC software vs the Bios?

I understand what is related to the Video in the bios but not what it actually does...need clarity.

Is the Clock and Bus proportionate?

Just a few to get it going...wont be doing this overnight, but would like insight.

You have to OC through programs, can't oc through bios...atleast i think that's right.

you should only mess with the vid card bios if you want to do soft mods and such.

You dont oc through the video card BIOS, it's BIOS doesnt have a GUI like a motherboard's BIOS does.

If you want to OC your video card, you use a program called ATI Tool, and you can have it automatically increase your speeds, or you can do it manually.

cool....that is easy enough....I am curious how high I can OC it with a water block on the Vid CPU and spreaders on the Vid Mem.

Hoping not to burn a vid card...but I think I will... :D

ATI Tool also monitors the temps, i had the same card and mine never went above 80C load when i had it oc'd, i wouldnt let it get past 90C.

And temps arent the only thing that limit your OC, the main limiter is voltage.

true. Don't know how far i'll be able to push it, we'll find out.

I'll OC it till I get a new one...wasn't impressed with the x800. I'll get a new one soon. Just have issues with parting from 400 bones....

Alrighty...this is a bit different than the CPU OC.

My Core clock is 400 Mhz and my mem clock should be at least 490 as per the manufacturers site....It is running at 400. I try to increase it and I get lock-up...any suggestions?

Currently I am d/l the latest drivers...
