Thermal Compound Q?

I am transfering a proccessor from one computer to another. My heatsink came with it pre applied. I am debating wether i ahve the appility to apply thermal compound Artic 5 Or whatever(have laying around). So my Question is, IS it difficult or should i go with thermal pads?

If you have Arctic Silver or something similar then you should definitely use it, it's very easy just apply a thin layer. Have a look here if you feel unsure:

but do i need to clean it with all that special stuff or can i just rub it off? and then apply it

You need to clean it off You dont however absolutely have to use 99% isopropyl .... standard rubbing alcohol will suffice

ok i applied it 2 mins ago i put on heatsink then rubbed off then put a lil more than the pic showed in the dead center of the cpu and put the heatsink on. was i suppose to spread it on the cpu or does the heatsink do that for me?
