Thermal Compound

I'm gonna be getting a Zalman 9700 soon and was wondering what thermal compound I should get with it. I was also wondering how I would go about removing the current stock paste and applying the new stuff. My rigs in my sig.

Thanks in Advanced :)

First use some denatured alcohol or often known as rubbing alcohol to see the old paste removed first. For the longest time Artic Silver 5 was the most preferred while some now will point at a newer thermal paste available called MMX-2.

Just remember to follow the manufacturer's instructions regarding the application and breakin time before doing any cpu pounding like ocing and heavy gaming. :P

MX-2 is the bomb!

Apply it like this (it must be in the correct direction) just a very small amount. Don't spread it, just seat the heatsink, and it will spread the paste itself :)

Allowing the heatsink to spread it will prevent air bubbles, and save yourself time.

Also, doing it in that line is only for the C2D's. It covers right overs the cores.

For AMD, you put a small dot in the middle. On a intel quads, you do the line, but in the other direction.
