I was thinking about apply thermal compund on my 7600GT and intel DualCore . Wondering is there any different between Thermal Compound for CPU and GPU . How to remove stock thermal that has been apply ? . Will that help in reducing the temperature of the CPU and GPU ?

You can use the same thermal compound on the GPU and CPU, reommended ones would be Arctic silver 5 or Zalmans thermal Grease.

Temp reductions will generally be a couple of degrees celsius but if you are replacing previously poorly applied compound then its could be more.

To remove already exisitng compound use a high percentage alcohol. I found the cheapest way was to go to a pharmacy and ask for some Surgical Spirit. Very cheap and does the job perfectly. Make sure you use a lint free cloth to remove it too.

thanks for your recommendation . i was in a hurry for a thermal and i grad a coolermaster premium thermal compound kit . Apply it on my old 478 processor . didnt use and alcohol to clean jsut scratch the old compund with a knife . the temperature drop by 4 degree . after the new thermal is apply and a heatsink cleaning . Now i wanna do it on my current PC but the 7600GT core is not a smooth surface . like the CPU and by stock it has white soft grease on it . likes abit diff from the coolermaster thermal i got . so can it work ? how to apply ?
