Thermal Paste help.

I just bought some new thermal paste (Deep cool silver Tim) for my dads PC and thought i should use it on mine as well. Before i did i wrote down the idle temps which were around 35C and now after i applied the paste the idle temps are around 45C.

Can anyone give any reasons as to why this would happen and what should be the idle and max temps for the Core I5 750 with stock heat sink?

Going by readings the thermal paste is not as good as the original used or you did not apply enough paste.

Or you applied too much
Not enough paste will not allow proper thermal conduction but I cannot understand too much paste will affect this other than making a bit of mess.
In the trade I was always taught a bit extra is better than not enough.

I think improper level of paste is the reason of your problem so first you should check out the level whether you have used less or more. The less use of paste will not make sense and the more usage can harm then good.

Also another factor is what type of thermal paste you are using.
Thanks to the other 3 posters as you all have valid points to consider.

How much did you use and how did you apply it?
