i bought a thermaltake TR2 600W power supply from best buy, pricematched with newegg at 60 bucks, the in store price was $89. is this power supply any good and is it in any way better than the 430W antec truepower II i was using. the antec is about 4-5 years old, but i wanted something bigger becuase i bought a gts 450. i know the gts 450 isnt really high end, but it does draw more power than the HD3850 i was running. i might take this thing back becuase i keep hearing negitive things about thermaltake powersupplies. antec is great but i wanted something with more than 430 and at 60 bucks the price was right. seems to be a well made supply, but i really dont know. its heavy, has a 120MM fan, and is quiet. i always kind of equated a heavy supply as being a heavier build unit on the inside.

should i take this powersupply and get my money back?

will an antec truepower II 430 run this system?
amd athlon x2 6000
4 1 gb sticks of ram
1 IDE drive
2 SATA drives
pny gts 450 1 gb v ram
1 dvd RW drive

i like antec, but i thought thermaltake was a good brand, maybe im wrong?

what about these brands:
thermaltake
antec
coolermaster
roswill(probably junk)
ocz
corsair
xfx
sunbeam

It isn't an awful unit, especially when compared to rosewill and sunbeam that you listed, but it is also by no stretch of the imagination a good unit. However with that said, it will power the setup that you have now just fine.

If you were to take it back, I would stick to the ones in your list, minus thermaltake, rosewill and sunbeam, and plus Seasonic and Silverstone.

For your $60, I would sooner take:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817256061

or much, much better yet:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151094

I know there is shipping on top of that, but the $10 shipping extra is worth it for a vastly higher quality unit

What do you mean, minus thermaltake? Thermaltake makes good PSUs.

The ThermalTake ToughPower units are alright, however even they aren't up to the same standards of the better units from other manufacturers. Any of the units lower than the ToughPower aren't worth it, you can spend the same money on a much better unit, like was demonstrated here. The S12II, although with 80W less, walks all over the 600W TR2. It is a much higher quality unit.

The same is true if you were to get a 500W unit from Antec, Corsair, Silverstone, (most) Be Quiet (units), XFX etc.

ThermalTake are seen sort of like OCZ and Rosewill are. People say they are great, when no, they aren't. OCZ make some alright units, but again, same situation as with ThermalTake, your money would be better spent on the more reputable brands, because you will get higher quality and higher constant wattage, even if you take a unit with 100W less.

Haven't checked out Thermaltake in awhile, But some units use to be made by Channel Well which wasn't to bad. But alot were made by HEC = Junk!!
