These are my parts - Are they Good???

Ok so my dad went out with me to tiger direct and we bought these parts.

AMD Athlon II X4 620 2.6Ghz - $120
Corsair XMS3 4GB DDR3 Dual Channel 1333MHz - $85
Gigabye 880GM-USB3 AMD 880G Socket AM3 MB - 110
Sata WD Caviar Green 1TB 64mb/SATA-3G - 70
Oh and some random case for $60

This is a general use computer...no intense gaming and stuff. Would you recommend i return the parts and get something better online/in store?
I live in Canada btw. Thanks!!

By the way, these prices are around my price range

Im a big fan of the Phenom quad cores, they are reliable and very quick. Im using one similar to yours at 2.8Ghz, and it was a lot pricier than yours - its like lightning though, and i stress it all the time with games.

For everyday tasks, your build is more than enough. I wont comment too much on price because im only familiar with UK prices
 
Phenoms are better than Athlon series chips. For an everyday use computer...an AMD Athlon II X4 620 will be perfect. There is no reason to change it out.

What about a power supply among other parts?
 
Gigabyte makes some of the best motherboards on the market today. Your setup looks decent.

Parts you may be missing for a full system are as follows:

1) Power Supply
2) DVD Drive
3) Windows Installation Disk
 
It looks fine for what your saying your using it for. You didnt list a video card, so I assume your using the onboard. You will have to update that later if you plan on doing any kind of gaming, plus what power supply did you get?

Hmm well although it might be better...if its the same price wouldnt it be worth it down the line to get the phenom processer? Sure i'll have to wait for a few days of shipping, but its not a big deal.

Oh and i have a dvd player from my old computer...i'll just pop that in. The tower came with a 450W power supply. And it also has a cooling fan

And i doubt any major gaming. Probably old games at most
 
I agree with StrangleHold. That power supply is likely poor quality. If it shorts out it could take your motherboard and other parts with it. Get a good quality power supply from one of the following manufacturers:

Antec
Asus
Channelwell
Corsair
Gigabyte
OCZ
PC Power and Cooling
Silverstone
Sparkle
Thermaltake
Toughpowers
Ultra
XClio
Zalman
Zippy
 
Hmm....well the thing is i wanted to keep this rig under like 500 bucks. Say i return the amd athlon x4 and get the phenom x3, and then buy a graphic card for 35. Wouldnt i then have to get a power supply as well?

This is hard -________-
 
The Athlon will be fine if you're not gaming...though you could have gotten the 635 for $100 from Newegg.

Again, if you're not gaming, the 4350 isn't going to be a huge improvement over the onboard for you. It's already powerful enough to play blu-ray movies at 1080p.


What case do you have, exactly? If it's a Cooler Master or Antec, then the included PSU may be ok.

Well you would have to get another CPU and motherboard. If you are going to want to upgrade this eventually, then you should get a new PSU unless the old one is good.

Nothings been opened, so theres no problem returning.
I just dont know what to get as some people are suggesting a graphic card and a seperate power source. So i guess my question:

Can the computer be made better with $220 if i return the processer and motherboard?
 
Hmm i wouldnt want to degrade the processer that much. Is is really necessary to get another power supply?

You can use a cheap power supply but who knows how reliable it is going to be. If the power supply goes it could destroy your motherboard and other parts. Going cheap on a power supply is a bad idea. In my opinion I would just save up the extra money you need to buy quality parts so you have a system that lasts.
