Thinking of building a new computer...

This would be my first build and my budget is around $1200 including OS and shipping. I've always dealt with Tigerdirect, but seeing how it seems like everyone on here shows at Newegg, I checked them out and their prices are definitely cheaper. I don't plan on building the computer until the end of April when I hear the prices are supposed to go down around $50? Is it worth waiting when I can get the E6600 for $310 on Newegg anyway? or do you guys think newegg will lower their price to $260. Also, the motherboard I picked out for the build accepts the 1333FSB and I'm reading in this article http://www.i4u.com/article8173.html that they are going to be pretty cheap(Under $200 for 2.6 ghz)

Anyway here is the list of parts I've picked out:

DVD Burner: (27.99)

CD Burner: (17.49)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16827136059

Case: (50)

Floppy Drive: (I never use it, but I hear these can come in handy for flashing bios?)(6.99)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16821104101

Graphics card (115 before rebate)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16814186004

Memor(149.99 for 2gig)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16820211063

Motherboard(Anyone have opinions on this...it's only got 2 PCI slots but it's got two PCI-e x16 slots)(129.99)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16813131142

CPU + Cooler combo: (252.00)
http://www.newegg.com/product/Product.asp?item=N82E16819115004
http://www.newegg.com/product/Product.asp?item=N82E16835200024

OS: (big question here.....why is the system builders version so cheap? would it work for my build on a blank HDD?)(119.99)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16832116202

HDD: (74.99)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16822144701

Keyboard and Mouse: (29.99)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16823126174

PSU: (24.99...recommended on the site)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817170010

The total is $1,110.48 shipped to my house. I want to use the computer for minor gaming and internet surfing. I want to try and overclock, but its not often I have this much money on my hands(only 15) and I don't want to overclock the processor too much. I'm going to be starting from scratch with this build and would like to know if theres anything I'm forgetting. I'll ask some of my noobie questions later because I think this is a long enough post for now. Thanks....Vinnie

your link for CD-Burner and Floppy Drive are wrong... and don't use the power supply that comes with the case, theya re usually not a good quality... so try to get a cheaper case and get a separate PSU...

try Antec for a case... and SilverStone for PSU...

I just fixed the links, thanks for telling me. Also I like that case because it comes with all the fans and I understand that the PSU that come with the cases are low quality, but for my use I think it would be fine as I'm not a hardcore gamer. I'm going to look at cases and PSUs now, just trying to stay in my budget.

even though your not looking at major gaming i would still look at getting an improved GPU, maybe suggest dropping the processor down a notch or two and putting more money in to the graphics :)

My current graphics card is a nvidia 6600, so i thought the 7100 woulda been good, but I'll look into that. And would I notice the 4mb L2 cache that the e6600 has over the 2mb the e6400 has..is it worth the $100 difference? or am I better off spending that $100 on better cooling, case, graphics, etc. and get a better overall computer.

your going to see a pretty big jump in performance from your current processor to any of the core 2 duo line. Dropping down to the E6400 (or even the E6300) would be a good bet if it meant you could use the money saved elsewhere on improving other parts :)

1) Since you are building PC at April, for the GPU, it is worth looking for NVIDIA 86 series. I think it should be release at that time. I think it would better to get a decent GPU is quite important. I personally will allow approx. $120 for GPU.

2) You will not need a CD Burner. A DVD Burner can burn CD.

3) RAM: 2 x A-DATA 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Desktop Memory Model ADQVE1A16 - Retail
Same price as your choice, but looking at spec. it works at 4-4-4-12

4)When buying HD, My first choice is Seagate (5 year warranty), second choice is West Digital (3 year warranty). Something with a short period of warranty, you can immagin how fast they are 'dead'

5) For PSU, you can look at PSU 101 It give suggestion on what you could pick.
But I do suggest you need a PSU for at least 500W. Allow room for future upgrade.

6) If you do not have enough money, I suggest you buying E6300/ E6400, may be E6320/ E6420 (4M Cache) at that time. You can easily increase the proformance by ocing.

7) Finally, if you really want a GPU under $60, I will suggest EVGA 128-P2-N441-LX GeForce 7300GT 128MB GDDR2 PCI Express x16 Video Card $59.99, It is the cheapes 7300GT card you can get.

P.S. You will need thermal gease for your CPU, and probably extra cpu fans for cooling

I really don't think I need a GPU that is over $100. I don't play games like WOW, infact I don't play that many games at all, I just want a graphics card so I have a full 2gig of memory and not have on-board graphics eat up my memory. Thanks for the memory suggestion, I will definitely use it. Heres my new HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16822144701. Also, I know the DVD drive can burn cds, but I want two drives on my PC and seeing as the CD burner was cheap, I thought I'd use it instead of a regular cd-rom drive. Back to graphics, I don't really understand what makes a graphics card better(other than having more mb of ram). I've been looking at the core and memory speeds on the ones I've linked, and they're faster than the one you linked, am I missing something? Sorry for the stupid questions.

I think the MB in GPU do not tell everything. It depends on the model. e.g. for NVIDIA 7600GT > 7600GS > 7300GT >7300GS. Even the 7300 GS have more MB, the 7600GS wth less MB will works better.
I am not a great epert, but you can go to the video card board to raise the question, and hopefully someone can answer you in detail.
By the way, you can go to webwite like tom's hardware, they compare the performance of different hardwares, hope it would help you to learn more.

ok, thanks, I think I may like my total build right now(check my original post for updated parts) I'm under budget by about $90 and with the new C2D processors coming out in April, I may splurge and get one of them depending on what my budget is. I have about $800 right now and plan on selling my current PC on ebay to get the rest of the money.
