i am thinking about upgrading my lappy's 120gb western digital SATA 1.5gbps with a 320gb samsung SATA 1.5gbps. my question is should i upgrade to a 3.0gbps hdd? will that make a noticeable difference in read/write speeds?

secondly i am also thinking of throwing a 32gb SSD in my second drive bay. does anyone know how much of a speed gain will see? im wondering if my lappy's hardware (HP dv9000 circa 2007) will limit it at all.

thanks for the input!

The key to SSD is get SLC, or the Samsung or Intel MLC. All other MLC SSD's are prone to severe stuttering.
As far as knowing what sata interface you have, you can download PC Wizard for free and it will tell you.

EDIT: i reinstalled PCW (i had it before, but lost it), and looked up my drive, but i didnt find anything usefull. any pointers on what to look for/where to find it?

thanks

There are 2 types of SSD.
MLC- more capacity, cheaper, but prone to stuttering(except the intel x25-m and samsung
SLC-less capacity, lot more expensive
The Intel X25-M (MLC)is $369 for 80GB,$729 for 160GB. The Intel X25-E(SLC) is $419 for 32GB. These prices are from newegg.
If you can wait about you should. The prices have fallen about have the last 6months.
G-skill also has a new drive ,the Titan, a 256GB for 499. But it is MLC and hasn't been fully tested yet. Some of the early test have been promissing.
