This drive needs to be checked for consistancy

Every once in a while, when i boot up my computer, i get this windows message after it does the windows load screen. Ive gotten it plenty of times before, and most of the time, i cancel the disk check. Ive run it a few times before, but with my computer:

Athlon64 3500+
MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
Windows XP with sp2
2x512 Geil pc3200
bfg 6800GT
WDC 320GB Sata
Maxtor 300GB IDE
WDC 200GB Sata

sometimes, when i run it, certain whole folders of files disappear, so i end up running a data recovery program to make sure i dont lose all my stuff. The disk check can take hours since the drives are so damn huge, and then i end up losing stuff occasionally. So i've become used to cancelling it, and occasionally getting fed up and letting it run. Well, last time it came up was more than a month ago. I leave my computer on when i go out, (sometimes for days) and when i come back, sometimes the computer is off, sometimes its not. Today, it was still on, but acting sluggish, so i restarted it. Low and Behold, that damn consistancy check came back, for the 200 gig drive.

It only happens when i end up turning my computer on and off, or when it does it by itself. Thats the only thing i can think of, like the computer being dumb when i turn it off. But now that it came up once, it will come up again every time until i let it process.

Anyone know the official cause of this? how can i change the registry or whatever to not make it ask the next time? any clue? lol

There is a registry edit that will easily disable the check disk utility. But you can also try a few other things first to see what is prompted it. One tip is when running the "chkdsk /p /r" command at the recovery prompt the volume is not only examined but repairs to the master boot record or other partition information are made. The second is the obvious need to defragment the hard drive since you have no maintainence scheduled apparently. One last thing to look at is verifying protected system files as well as repair and/or replace any found damaged or missing with the system file checker. You simply run "sfc /scannow" at the Run prompt found right off of the Start menu. But a system left unattended for lengthy periods of time without period maintainence can develope several problems with drives fragmenting as well as overall wear and tear.
