This is so hard! Monitors?

He's not talking about videos hes talking about gaming. Also tv's and monitors are completely different. I agree with smile if OP is going 27" he should be looking at higher 1080.

I also talk about game. 1080p is good enough ever if it is over 27" monitor.

How laggy will a game be with 6ms response time?

I'm not talk about monitor response, i'm talk about game that might will be laggy. That's due to hardware limit. If you play crysis 2 at 1440p, not only getting up to 60 FPS at 1440p but it would be like 25 to 35 FPS base on your pc specs

Even with an overclocked 7970

You might just be able to spring for a 680, I don't know what the prices are like in America (i presume?). Otherwise, a highly clocked non-reference 670.

You know what all these cards are pretty expensive... Is it possible to get a cheaper one, and overclock it?

you'd be fine. Jamebonds1 is wrong I think. The 7970 only just dips below 60fps at that resolution.

"Think" doesn't help OP at anything without external source. That's why i always verify website. There is no 1440p benmark so i take guess what avg FPS will be. Noticed GTX 670 is fastest than AMD 7970. It is single video card i was talk about. Plus DX 11 on ultra setting at those link i posted. Also based on OP's i5 quad core overclocked, it will be slightly FPS loss from benmark test. Some test benmark use i7 six-core 2011 LGA. So be sure to read Test System and Benmark. I'm not say "you're wrong" but I'm just provide source to help OP and member.

Crysis 2 isn't battlefield 3. And I can't exactly link to a forum post in the middle of a thread.

If you take the time to google the specific results from normal people, you will see that it runs it fine.

This didn't made sense. First, I don't say Crysis 2 is battlefield 3. Second, I always provide a link to show OP. I check it in Tom's hardware and battlefield 3 will running fine at between 40 to 50 FPS avg for GTX 570 and AMD 7970. Click link I post then go to Benchmark Results: Battlefield 3 pages.

PS. I know we met at other forum but it getting really old at some argument. Plus, this is not place to argument.
