this one or that one

Yeah id also so AMD for your first build. It'll save you some money too. The i7 might be a little too much more than you need for now.

Depends on which X6 he's talking about. Don't just assume it's the 1055t, he could be talking about the 1090t so it's the same price.

The I7 is still a stronger CPU overall for 99% of tasks.

If you can, wait for Intel's Sandy Bridge CPUs in December 2010. They could be better bang for the buck than the i7s, and even if they're not, the i7s' prices will go down.

i would be using it for crysis, arma 2, so basically all the graphic demanding games or just gaming in general

how so ........ o and i will be typing school papers on it and stuff. but any ways the amd is the same price. so why not go for the overkill lol?

The I7 will be faster in 99% of apps, and will overclock better most likely. Nehalem architecture is faster clock for clock than Phenom II. It also runs triple channel memory, which is faster. Hyper threading on the I7 pretty much makes up for the cores on the x6. The I7 has 8 threads available to it for multitasking, the x6 just has six.

The I7 is overkill for what you need.
It'll still future-proof, though. I would go either way. It depends if you want the best upgradeability as of now, or if you want to hope that AMD will keep AM3 backwards-compatibility going. I would go with the i7, personally. It depends what mood I'm in, though. Sometimes I'll be in an anti-AMD mood, and sometimes I won't. :) Also, the i7 will perform better core for core then the X6, so in apps that are single-threaded the i7 will beat the X6 any day. As 87dtna also said, the i7 technically has more threads than the X6, making it also dominant for highly multithreaded apps. So in general, the i7 will perform better.

Yeah I was saying the I7 is already overkill for his needs, maybe I wasn't clear there.

Blah blah with AM3 compatability. Even if bulldozer is miraculously AM3 compatable, the board you run it on will only do dual channel ram. Who's realistically going to run bulldozer with dual channel? Blah. Be realistic, anyone that will be able to afford bulldozer is going to buy a new board with it.

so ur saying amd?

i mean why not get the i7 it is the same price

so what processor is really good for gaming
?

whats bulldozer?
Bulldozer is AMD's new CPU design that they're going to launch in 2011. Some people believe that it'll be compatible with current AM3 boards (the motherboards that support the Phenom II x6). We're saying that it might not really be fully compatible, though, so just go with the i7.
