This or that

Nums

Alright, I've been planning a high performance desktop for some time now and I've been thinking about just getting an ALX X58, I ran the grand total to 11 grand which imo is a bit expensive, but I added a lot of extra junk. :P

Would save me a lot of time and hassle by just getting this, but I have heard some bad things about Alienware's desktops.

What do you guys think? Stick with the one I'm working on or get this:

Chassis: Alienware P2 ALX with AlienIce 3.0 Video Cooling
CPU: Intel Core i7 965 3.2GHz
PSU: Alienware approved 1,200W
GPU: Dual Radeon 4870x2
RAM: 12GB 1600MHz (I realize that is overkill, but I want this to be future proof for a while)
Motherboard: Alienware approved Intel X-58
HDD: 2x 128GB SSD's and 2x 1TB 7,200 RPM
Optical Drives: 20x Dual Layer Burner and 4x Dual Layer Blu-ray Burner
Miscellaneous:
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer
Alienware High Performance Liquid Cooling System
Alienware Acoustic Dampening
Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit
Dual High Performance Gigabit Ethernet Ports

Grand Total: $10,924.47

I added a couple monitors, a keyboard, mouse and a few other things, so thats about 2 thousand then the shipping and tax adds another 700 or so, so not all of it is really the computer.

Have you considered building your own? You'll save yourself a ton of money that way. Because don't forget when you buy a prebuilt you are paying for labor.

+1, Building your own is the way to go, especially when you have forums such as this to ask questions on, there's really no reason not to.

True..but I'm lazy :P

I'm just throwing this out there, I'm still pretty dead set on the computer I have configured, but this is definitely one of my top options.

i agree with the other guys. just build your own. saves you a ton of money.

also you really dont need SSD now. wait till they have gone down in price. just 2 of those SSD cost around 600 bucks.
also you can get those gigabit ethernet ports with your motherboard. no need to buy seperate ones.

Price isn't a factor for me, so SSD is pretty much a given and the ethernet ports come stock on the website, you have no choice but to get it. I think they are built into the motherboard otherwise the website wouldn't tell me that I have exceeded the maximum PCI slots when I try to click on the dedicated card. :)

Even if price isn't a factor, I still recommend building your own. Even if just for the experience.

i understand that price isnt a factor for you. its just why overpay for it though... you can instead put that money in building your own system. in the end you will have much better parts. and a lot cooler stuff.

for instance. you can get a much better case with much more room for your dual 4870 x2 monsters. and everything else you want to put in there.

Well, you do have a point...

Not to mention he'll be able to upgrade down the road, most manufactured pc's bios' only support the CPU they ship with. They might run other CPU's, but will give errors and won't support the full speed.

Building your own is the way to go.

I think I catch your meaning. lol

Alright alright, I'll just stick with my own custom build; now quit bashing my ideas guys. :P

$11,000 ? Yikes you can buy a slightly used car for that. I can't imagine spending more then 3 or 4k for a top of the line system.

ok, at least you didn't go for the alienware, because you can have your cpu at -45*C 24/7 for that price, and 2 4870x2's/3 gtx 280's at 0*C if you want, and a mountain mods ascension case, that alienware is stupid for that price, and the cpu cooling system is easily overwhelmed if i remember correctly
