This really isn't what i needed....

I don't think any soldering is necessary- just unplug the old one, and plug the new one in.

And as for how it broke- I think it was when the ipod was in my pocket, with the earbud headphones wrapped around it, and when I was lying on the floor petting my cat, I rolled onto it, and the earbud pressed against the screen. Pretty hard, I guess. :D.

And yes, I was listening to Stadium Arcadium. I actually can still listen to it on my ipod, its just a huge pain in the ass.

the screen is soooo easy to repair and the good thing about that auction is they give you the opening tools as well. Opening the ipod is by far the hardest part of the whole process.

And no the liquid crystals will not leak everywhere (lol)

I'm about to order the LCD replacement in the ebay auction I posted previosuly...but before I do, I just want to estimate how many problems i'm going to run in doing this. :P.

I was wondering if you could briefly walk me through the process?

Thanks a lot.

EDIT: I also think I'm going to buy a hard case for the ipod. The most important part is the screen protector. Any suggestions?

Once you get it open it's pretty straight forward (not a lot to it, just irritating to do), just look at where the old stuff is attached, there's not too much in there.

There's enough small harder type traveling cases to choose from even if they are exactly for IPod. Hopefully the screen will be modular where you will find the internal connections simply plug or fit in. But be aware some of those screens are nicrosoldered in. The contacts are small like the tip of a pencil. It will hard for anyone who has never opened one up to actually guide you through. That's "slow going" and "extreme care" are two important rules.

Well guys, thanks alot for your help...I did end up buying the screen in that auction a few pages back...I got it and installed it today, and it works great! Thanks for your help.

Now, I just need to find a case.....

Did it plug in directly or did you need any soldering? Probably not but in some devices with small lcds you will see a catapillar type row of leads that solder direct to the small circuit card inside. As far as a case just remember to get one that can take an impact on the outside with good padding on the inside or you may end up starting a new thread. no not again! :P

Lol...yeah, I got the iSkin evo2 for my ipod 4th generation, but it obviously won't fit on my new ipod...

The wasn't any soldering to be done...just pop open the bar that secures the cable, pull the old one out, put the new cable in, and flip the bar back down. It was really easy...I don't know why I was worrying so much.

That's the modular design there. They must have "anticipated"? that someone would "break a display"? at some point. You found that out fast! ouch!
