This (weird) setup possible...?

So basically,I want to hook up 3 comps together, two laptops and an older desktop running 98SE&Linux. So if I set up an ad-hoc w-less between the laptops and had the oldie connected to either of them with a crossover cable, would that work? Anything OS-specific that I should know?

Yes. It's for playing oldschool games with my brothers...

Use a hub or a switch. Connect all the computers into it and away you go... you can also connect a cable from your router to the hub and then you all have the internet.

I don't have one, not sure how much they cost but I don't think it's worth it as the only use for the setup would thrashing my brothers... and I can still do it with the laptops, though we can only have 2 of us playing at once. I was just wondering if I could do it with the equipment I currently have.

oh - well then you'll need a router.... you can get one for around $50 to $80 AU from MSY Computers
