Thought You Had A Legit Version Of Xp

my friend got his computer reformated by a guy who is an it well has all the knowlege to do it to reinstall xp ne way he got it back had a heck of a time being th comp. came with 98 and feezes all the time but thats not the point he had me work on it to tryn n get it runnin cause it would freeze in startup and i found the ram wasnt in all the way and it fired right up and i got right on updates thinking that may be the problem and the you r not running a legit version of xp came up now im wondering if the guy put a bootleg version on there or not

cause my roomate who has never reformated or even used the boot disk got the same thing and he baught it strait from HP so its not second hand or nething its just WACK


THIS IS "NOT" A POST WHERE YOU PUT "I PUT STOLEN COPY OF WINDOWS ON MY COMPUTER"

I JUST WANT SOME ADVICE AND WONDERING IF NE ONE ELSE HAS GOTTEN THIS AND KNOWINGLY HAD A LEGIT COPY

That doesn't sound good, I think someone should go confront that guy and let him lie or tell the truth. They are trying to cripple pirated versions of Windows or what they think is anyway. I have read on other forums that some ppl have had the same problem and they said they were 100% legit. Don't call Windows support asking for help, you will get something that sounds like it comes from an airport, "Has anyone, not to your knowledge, put anything in your PC?" Think about that question.

AHHH forgot that part there were a couple trojans when i finaly got to get AVG working could that be y, the trojan fobar'd system files of the OS

Let me guess, errors left and right? I tried finding a test by Googling it, Microsoft has a verification test, as you probably know, but it is biased for their protection. So if they even suspect you, they shoot you down, why hasn't anyone made a "third-party" test for this?

the only problem it has is runing for like 5 minutes then it freezes and it used to freeze everytime when he would run avg antispyware and it would stop at the same file now it doesnt do it my roomate got a hold of it defrag it and did a disk clean and check and it passed i think its just that the ram and the processor cant opperate with xp as far as the freezing goes but do you remember the test site for microsoft can i find it on microsofts webpage?

You have to do a verification check before putting in IE7, I think.
 
heh. im having computer trouble atm and i called MS for some possible help. i bought my xp from newegg but MS told me that it is an illegal copy and promptly redirected me to the anti-piracy line.

I SAID THAT BECAUSE THIS IS NOT A THREAD FOR THOSE DUMASSES THAT PURPOSELY GOT A PIRATED COPY OF XP

THIS IS A LEGIT PROBLEM WITH LEGIT VERSIONS OF XP AND I WANT TO TRY TO GET THE PROBLEM SOLVED

AND IF ANYONE LEAVES A REPLY ON HERE REGARDING PURPOSELY AND KNOWINGLY USING A PIRATED VERSION IM SENDING THERE s$%^ TO Praetor SINCE HE SEEMS LIKE THE ONLY ONE THAT KEEPS CRAP UNDER RAPS ON HER

^^ take it easy there bud...i realize your problem and frustration, BUT THAT DOESNT MEAN YOU HAVE TO USE ALL CAPS, ALL THAT DOES IS MAKE MY EYES BLEED
 
i wanted to get attention there are a few morons on here and i use that loosly and CAPS gets attention and thats what i wanted to stress that
