Thumb drive not recognized by desktop

I have a Kingston DTSE9 thumb drive which is no longer recognized by my desktop.
When I insert the thumb drive into both of my my desktop's ports, there is no audible "beep" and the thumb drive does not show up in Disk Management or Device Manager. I inserted three different thumb drives into my desktop, and all three thumb drives were recognized by the desktop.
I also inserted the DTSE9 into a Sony bluray player and it was not recognized, but a different thumb drive was recognized by the bluray player.

So I have two questions:

1. Is there a way to get my desktop to recognize the DTSE9?
2. If the DTSE9 is dead, is there a free software that would allow me to recover the files on the thumb drive to another thumb drive or hard drive?

If no computer or device recognizes the drive then its shot. The only way to possibly recover the data would be to send it to a professional data recovery center and that won't be cheap.

Always keep backups of your data in multiple mechanisms.

If a hardware device has failed there isn't software that will restore its physical functionality. You might be able to transplant the NAND onto another device but that's labor intensive with no guarantee of success.

Guys:

Thanks for the replies.

As a last resort, since my DTSE9 has been used for years, it there a possibility that the thumb drive is dirty and using isopropyl alcohol and a cotton swab could clean the inner slot of the thumb drive?

I've seen articles saying isopropyl alcohol can safely clean the inner slot and others say isopropyl alcohol will damage the inner slot's sensitive contacts.

Unless you shoved it in a puddle of mud I don't imagine you'd see a difference.

If you want to know if there's a possibility of it being dirty, use your peepers and look at it.
