Thumb Drive to add more RAM?

Have read where I can use a thumb drive, plug it into a USB port and add more memory to Windows XP. It looks very simple. I have 1gb of RAM now. If this can be done(it says to use a USB port on the back of the computer and leave it there)what size of thumb drive should I buy? Thanks!

I would just add another GB of memory to your computer. What you're talking about is ReadyBoost (for vista and 7, don't know about XP) and it doesn't really work well at all.

Tried adding more memory with a stick and the computer would simply not work. I have 4 memory slots with 2 open and when I added the extra memory the computer would not fire up. I just thought maybe the best way is to use a thumb drive. Thanks for your reply.

On some computers you have to add sticks in pairs for it to work properly or its possible you had a bad/incompatible stick.
