I just signed on with Google's Gmail account, and tried to link Mozilla's Thunderbird up with it. I followed all of the steps as they were shown, but ran into the following error message when I tried to test it out:

An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: 5.7.0. Must issue a STARTTLS command first 20sm634724nzp. Please verify that your email address is correct in your mail preferences and try again.

My email address is correct, but I don't kknow what the rest of this means. Can anyone render a simple blueprint?
 
To access a Gmail account with Mozilla Thunderbird:

Make sure POP access is turned on for your Gmail account.
Select Tools | Account Settings... from the menu.
Click Add Account....
Make sure Email account is selected.
Click Next >.
Type your name under Your Name:.
Enter your Gmail address under Email Address:.
Click Next >.
Make sure POP is selected under Select the type of incoming server you are using..
Type "pop.gmail.com" under Incoming Server:.
Click Next >.
Enter your full email address ("[email protected]", for example) under Incoming User Name:.
You'll just have to append "@gmail.com" to what Mozilla Thunderbird has already entered for you.
Click Next >.
Give the Gmail account a name (something like "Gmail", for example) under Account Name:.
Click Next >.
Now click Finish.
Select Outgoing Server (SMTP).
Click Advanced....
Click Add...
Type "smtp.gmail.com" under Server Name:.
Make sure Use name and password is checked.
Type your Gmail address under User Name:.
Make sure TLS is selected under Use secure connection:.
Type "587" under Port:.
Click OK.
Click OK again.
Select Server Settings under the newly created Gmail account.
Click Use secure connection (SSL) to enable it.
Click Advanced....
Go to the SMTP tab.
Select smtp.google.com:587 from the Server: drop-down list.
Click OK.
Click OK once more.
 
I i have a problem with thunderbird aswell. it connects to the login server for hotmail then when i send a messagge i get this error

sending of message faild
the message could not be sent because connecting to the smtp server smpt.live.com failed. the server may be unavailable or is refusing smtp connections,

i have hotmail popper and i have changed the security settings between ssl? and TCL?

please help
