time for a monitor

what the hell is CRT?
i know what LCD is
what are the pros and cons of LCD and CRT

it will be a gaming computer
I have
p4 3.0 e
asus p4p 800 se
80 gb
and 30 gb
512x 2

and will have 6800gt or 6800 ultra not sure which yet

id like 19 inch if possible
but 17 would be acceptable as well

I searched but there isnt much discussion on this matter that i found anyway

is 16ms response too slow for gaming?
 
CRT=Cathode Ray Tube which are the big, heavy glass monitors. They are cheap, but heavy and deep.

LCD= Liquid Crystal Diode these are thin, flat, lightweight monitors. They are very sharp, but they are more expensive than CRT, though their price is always dropping.
They are not as responsive as CRTs. For internet or Word, that doesn't matter, but for videos or gaming it does. I would recommend a monitor with at least a response time of 10ms or better, if you intend on gaming
 
CRT monitors arnt bad or something like that, whey are just big :D

My monitor here (eizo T660i-T 21") got a weight of 37 Kg,

but its a professional drawing monitor for drawing machines in autoCAD, (at least, it was :P ) wich can handle a resolution of 2048 x 1536 at 89 Hz.
So i think LCD isnt always better.
i mean, for that purposes CRT monitors are still used.
 
yea LCD's are more expensive and generally better, but once and a while a CRT comes around that manages to trump 95% of the LCD's out there.

Reverse LCD's with CRTs and vise a versa and this statement is sort of correct.

CRTS generally are a more superior product as far as picture is concerned as they do everything generally well but there are more bad LCD's then there are good for things such as gaming. Also as far as color correctness goes most people have this wrong also, CRTs are also superior here so they are better for photo imaging and what not.

LCD's are stylish and there are some great ones out there so don't get me wrong.

o, i didn't know that. Arn't CRT's the big bulky T.V.s out there as well. I know that they still have better picture quality than even a top of the line plasma.

CRT are cheaper and usally work better. You can probably get LCDs that equal decent CRTs but it will cost alot more money. If you have room just go for a CRT. It will save you moeny and get you a better weapon.
 
meh, ill stick with crt until they bring out a perfect lcd. lcd screen are only made for people who want a stylish set up who dont do anything but word and browsing. as said previously crt's have better picture, plus you can look at them from any angle without annoyance, unlike lcd's :mad:

Change that to "If a breaks into my house, he won't want to try and steal a 30 pound CRT"

Also, CRT's ARE cheaper, and are usually better for gaming in my opinion. They can hit higher res's at higher refresh rates. The CRT I'm using now is from 1994 (all my crt's are from the trash) and will do 1600 x 1200 at 200Hz.
 
funzo I think you got your tiger direct link messed up, but enywho I still prefer crt over lcd.
