Timing of antivirus install?

My antivirus software subscription (Trend Micro) will run out on April 15, 2009. I am thinking of switching to AVG. When is the best time to install the new one (before the other expires, after expiration, etc)? I've heard it isn't good to have more than one AV program on a computer, but I don't want my PC to be unprotected.

System is Dell laptop PC, Vista SP1. Thanks.
 
Install it when Trend Micro expires?
I'm pretty sure your computer being unprotected for a matter of 10 minutes won't do too much harm..
 
You don't have to be unprotected.
1) Download your new Anti-Virus program
2) When you decide you are ready to install, disconnect from the net
3) Uninstall Trend Micro
4) Install your new one
5) Connect to the net and update your new one
