I was looking around and found this.

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicat...tails.asp?EdpNo=3701100&body=MAIN#detailspecs

it has linux which i havent used before. it also has openoffice. i dont have any programs right now like MS Office or anything. So I was thinking of learning openoffice because its free. Its only $300 and I would only use it to bring to class for notes or whatever. I wouldnt really do much more than that. Maybe a paper or 2. I have a desktop that I will use mostly but was just looking for something small and portable.

What do you guys think about this notebook??Linux??

thanks

These are cool little computers. Definately awesome for what you'd need it for. I'd personally go for the 4gb version of it though. The Linux thats on there isn't bad, but me being a windows person I'd install XP on it if it were me. Linux confuses the hell out of me:o They actually run quite nice with XP, very snappy. All in all I'd recommend it.

so what do you guys think about openoffice?is it wasy to learn.if i get this i plan to use it for all my papers an notes in school.i would also download it on my desktop so files can open on any computer.

You can add memory to these, or at least so I've heard. As far as open office goes it is about the same as Microsoft word and it works mostly the same as it, the primary difference being the fact that GUI looks slightly different.

Actually search on youtube and watch some vids. I actually watched a vid were someone was playing gta: san andreas on it and it loaded fairly fast. You can run vista on it too if you desired but you would most likely want more ram.

You need a 4G or better if you want to upgrade your memory... 2Gs, AFAIK, have soldered memory and no additional slots. I think I might get a 4G myself, they seem like a nice comp... I don't think their processors can be upgraded, and even if they could I think c2ds produce too much heat for such a small, light laptop.

From what I have read the Bios does let you OC a little! I plan on getting one in a while just to mess around the house! It will be fun just testing out different stuff!

For schoolwork, some, say, 4GB harddrive (well actually it's a flash drive) should be more than enough, I should imagine. You don't install games that take a thousand gigs of HD space on a computer like that, anyway, and you certainly wouldn't carry your p0rn/illegal movies collection with you at school, would you ;)

Also, if the HDD/FDD size matters, you could just buy a external HDD, they ain't too expensive.

Good point.
But that little thing don't have DVD-Rom as well. So when you want to watch some DVD, you need to ask your friend to tranfer the DVD to the external HDD and watch it... Or get an external DVD-Reader?

In that case, you possibly looking at around $400 to spend. And the cheap laptop starting at $500-600. That's why I say I don't recommend.
But if he have a desktop, this thing is just like a show off gadgets anyway.
