Tips for saving bandwidth

Whats the score regarding Bandwidth?

I understand the 'more' bandwidth, the slower the internet speed/connection, right?

How can I keep my internet connection running at top speed?

:)

The more bandwidth you have, the faster your internet speed will be, and the faster web pages will load. Also having more bandwidth would allow you to download faster, as well as having more users on the same connection without significant slowdown.

That's the speed of your connection. So lets say for example, you have 1mb. I have 500k.

So this means.. you have "more" bandwith.. so your connection will be faster.

But, what you mean is.. If let's say you have 3 computers in your house using that one connection. Then imagine it as.. it'll sorta be split up into 3 channels. You'll have like 333k of bandwith being used in each of your pc. So like you said, "the more bandwith, the slower the internet speed"

"More" people/pc are using that one 1mb you have thus, more bandwith the slower the internet. So with that, my 500 would be faster than your 333

Not entirely true. If the other two users wherent using a lot of bandwidth, you would get the leftovers.

As for saving bandwidth, close P2P programs, and stick a WEP or WPA security on your wireless network if you have one.

Some ISP's actually charge for the bandwidth used... Thank the internet gods that I am not charged that way!!

Well yea, its set as an example for him/her to get the idea of it and how the whole bandwith "more" term works.

use netlimiter or just when u're not using the computer just disable the connection or use firewalls to lock all internet connections.

A good tweak utility I use is TCPOptimizer (Google it). If you're not capped it's awesome, and you still see gains if you are. Pay for 6Mb onnection, often get 9Mb+. You can use www.dslreports.com "tweak test" to determine the proper settings for the optimizer.

Thank for all your input guys. :)

I have just 2mb (with Tiscali), which I believe is the fastest they do. Although I hear people stating they have 6mb or even 20mb, yet mine is, and always has been, extremely fast.

If I can get a 'faster' connection from this TCPOptimizer then I shall be all for it.
