tips when putting together my computer?

so I have every piece needed for my built computer except the tower itself which will be here this tuesday, which includes....

gigabyte p55-ud6
w corsair power supply
xfx radeon 5770 v card
WD 1tb 7200 hard drive
intel core i5 processor
two corsair 2g ram
windows 7 home prem
coolmaster raf full tower 932
cd/dvd drive

please no "you should of gotten this and not this" in this thread.

ive never built my own computer before and like to know anything I should know before I do it.
ive already installed the processor, added the heat sink, processor fan and the ram, now needing the tower before I can do anything else.

also a question,
the p55-ud6 motherboard has 5 slots where the ram can be put in it seems (3 blue and 2 white),does it matter where i put them in? i just had them put in on the farthest left and one near the middle.

hmm if something doesnt go in the way its supposed dont push harder :).

dont set the parts on carpet.

and use zip ties to tie up the wires and increase airflow.

As far as building advice... just take your time and be sure that everything is properly seated, especially the processor. At the university I used to work at, they made us wear grounding bracelets when working on mobos, etc. I don't think this is necessary, but be sure that you touch the case before touching any of the devices. I've never seen anything get 'fried' from touching it, but it's probably not a good idea to scoot your feet around on the carpet and 'shock' your processor. :P

yep ive been touchng something that would normally shock me to discharge myself. (i hope). ive been laying the piecs on my bed normaly so i hope that isnt a problem, though i can just lay them on the boxes it came with if needed. looking forward to get this done this tuesday :). thanks
 
its not a good idea to put your board where it can flex. i.e. carpet and bed. not laying it on the carpet is also for the static.
 
think i will work it on the desk then hehe, the processor fan was a tooless kit so i did bend the motherbaord it bit, not damaging it which was a bad idea hehe.
 
hehe yep, for the processor fan, the wire was on little latches that held it down but was way to close to the fan that it can easily stop it. at first though it was needed but letting it just loose a bit and hoovering over makes it a sure thing.

also, for the processor fan i couldnt get the bottom two push pins to go fully though the motherboard small holes, but they are half way in and it doesnt seem to be loose at all so ill just leave it as it is. rather not risk the chance of breaking the motherboard
