im ****ing tired of windows...
Im thinking of switching to linux but i have some question first...
i have to get LINUX applications right? there is no compatibility patch or something?
for all the drivers, will they still work with linux?
wich linux should a download( i got a good comp... no need of a small install )
i have my hardrive framanted in 2 parts, can i get 1 windows and 1 linux??
thx everyone

look around on www.linux.org for which one you want to try. You can get windows emulators for linux but I dont know how well they work. Linux needs its own drivers, most if not all will be installed during the install process. Yes you can have windows and linux installed on different partitions.

Just remember, if you plan to play games, not all games are compatitable with Linux and say goodbye to all your Microsoft Word and Excel, publisher etc docs as they don't work with Linux either.

I could be wrong but I believe Microsoft word and Exel do work under linux depending on version of Wine.

okay but im thinking of keeping windows and linux on the same comp...
how do i do that? i want to be able to switch to windows and to linux each time i restart my computer...

usually the linux install will use the Grub boot menu (works kind of like the windows dual boot menu). The last time I installed linux the installer was pretty friendly and could set everything up.

okay
i choose to install Yoper Linux ( http://www.yoper.com )
i was wondering... i already have 2 partitions:
if i install linux on my second partition, will i be able to look at my first partition with linux and to my second partition with windows???
because i have all my music on my second partition and i would like to be able to listen to it in windows AND linux...

and do i need only one partition for linux? i heard you needed 4 or 5...

Indeed but dont worry so much about partitioning. The Installer will make this easy for you.

Make sure when you partition to have a swap space of like 100-200mb and a linux native partition. You'll see what I'm talking about when ou get there. I made the mistake of not partitioning a swap space the first install I did, and it runs unbelievably slow....

microsoft office does work with linux
with a prog called xover office :)
but to be honest you dont need it anymore as most linux dist's has a free version of office included in it
i run windows progs in linux ( sometimes better than windows)
and games designed for windows ..but this is dependant again on what distrubution you choose :)
