To be wireless or not to be wireless?

I am moving and I have the option to pick up a high speed cable wireless signal (asume full strength) or to have a modem of my own (which will also have high s[eed cable connection) (by the way - To rent the wireless signal would be alot cheaperfor me by nearly 40/mo.)...My quest8on is...Do any of you out there feel strongly toward one of these options and against the other? Why? ...Ive been looking for some good reserch here on the web, but havent run across any yet...

First off, what kind of wireless are we talking about here. Some companies rent out modem/routers, or is it an actual cellular connection. Regardless, I'd probably stick with wired. Unless you REALLY want/need wireless, , you typically can't get near the speed or reliability you do with a standard wired connection.

Personally, if the wireless option is to basically get a modem/router, I'd try to get a wired connection and get my own router. Perhaps it's just me, but I prefer control over my hardware. Rented units are typically locked down pretty tight.

Coming from a wireless ISP to a ADSL wired line I agree with The_Other_One on this. Wired is is a lot more reliable. I had a wireless connection about 2 years ago now so they maybe a lot better now but I found I always had bad ping while playing online games.

In my opinion, if quality of connection is very important to you (play games, marketing online, bussiness online) then you should use a cable connection. If you are only a normal user, you want only to read newspaper, watch TV, listen radio, check email, chat.... then a wireless connection (cheaper) should be your choice.
Regards.

reliability and speed

well it seems like the issues are reliability and speed...I understand the reliability portion of the situation (and it is somthing Im prepared to deal with)...I am primarily concerned with the issue of speed...I am (for the most part) an average user (with checking email and such), but I do enjoy the occasional game and I do rather enjoy things being a little more snappy and hapening when I tell them to happen...I have a hi8ghspeed wired (but I can also go wirless) connection now and love it...for the most part I dont notice any large problem (with speed) when going wireless, so I do intend to go this rout at the new place...I would love to hear more arguments to the contrary however (a wired connection with a modem) with respect to the paticulars of speed...

Well when youre wireless it depends on how close to the wireless router/source you are. The closer you are the stronger the signal for the most part. I would get wired and if you want wireless buy a wireless AP so you still have wireless. But like previously mentioned, I like control over my own hardware too.

well i use strictly wireless and i will say this....

with good signal i can surf the net....download and play COD4 online all at the same time with no problems with any....

wired will ALWAYS be more consistant but if you get a good signal strength you won't have fluxuations
