to cash or not to cash

i have a diamond plus 9 160gb/8mb/7200rpm ata133 hard drive. the experiences i have had with cache turn on are the follwoings: data were missing randomly, hdd converted to dynamic drive by itself. curently i have cache turned off, would turning it on really get me some boost in performance?
 
Cache makes a huge difference, going from an 8MB to a 16MB made a tremendous increase. I cant say how much you will see, since i never had a drive with no cache, but it is an extremely good way to boost hard drive performance.
