To display laptop on TV

Does anyone know of a cheap way to watch video files in a laptop through the regular TV? My laptop (Toshibe A100 Win XP SP2) has a S-video output, but my TV only has RCA and coaxial input. I have seen converters sold online at a wide range of prices. Any good experience?

i have a convertor in place on my media center it works great

Its not too hard to make a converter using an old svid and RCA cable. Just tinker with the wires a bit(don't worry, it won't shock you or anything :P) And eventually you'll find a combination that gives you a picture. However, I think actual converters have some sort of resistor or something in them as just making one by crossing wires tends to cause the picture to be a bit over saturated...

For anything other than video, I wouldn't use a TV as a monitor (unless it's a high def TV in which case you would be using a DVI or HDMI input).
