To ditch the crt?

I currently am running two very nice flat screen 17 CRT monitors. I game alot. And alot of my games run at different resolutions. (Say, Halo runs at 800x600, while CSS runs at 1152x864) I am thinking of selling off my CRT's for a single 19inch LCD because I could really use the space on my desk. After doing a bit of research. I think I have the basics of what to look for down. But I have heard that LCD's stretch and distort non-native resolutions. This is especialy bad if you get a widescreen (which I am currently looking at) I cant exactly change the game resolutions unless I want only 5fps. So, this is sorta a two part question. Should I ditch the CRT's for say, this LCD (considereing how I game). And if so, how would the monitor cope with the different resolutions? Will it put black bars around the game? Are there programs that can let games running at 800x600 look good?

I know that running games in lower resolutions with newer LCD's doesn't look that bad at all. When I had my X300 I had to run FEAR at 640x480 if I wanted shadows to be on. It actually didn't look bad at all on my 17" LCD, not sure what it would look like on my new 19", since I run all my games at least at 1072x768. I remember trying to play a game on a 17" LCD widescreen and I had to run my games at 800x600, and it stretched the picture across the screen. It looked really crappy. If you use your computer more for gaming than watching movies, then I wouldn't recommend a widescreen monitor.

I've never seen any of the stretching effect mentioned, but on my Sony TFT (not widescreen), very low resolutions such as 640x480 and to a lesser extent 800x600 tend to blur slightly.

I don't think you will have any problems with resolution, but a TFT with a low response time (<= 8ms) will be useful.

Well after a bit of thinking, the way I figure it. If I can find a person or two who wants to buy the monitors, for 50 bucks each. Then Ill sell them both, scrape up another hundered, and buy the monitor. If I dont like it, I will return it within the 30 days and possible get a normal 19inch, or head down to a cheap computer store I know and pick up an old 17inch CRT again for $25.

Don't go get a 19" widescreen. If you are gonna get a lcd either get a 17" or 19" normal lcd. For a regular computer monitor the widescreen is gonna be a little small just because its not going to have a very tall screen. And if you game unless the games you play support widescreen resolutions, it will look like crap.
