Not to fond of Ati so not really feeling the 4870x2
Im returning my 285 because the price dropped 50$ and has been discontinued (the version of the card I have) My question is the card worth it? How does it Stack up? Is it the best card out there?

keep waiting. my GF bought me the sapphire 4870 1gb toxic for 204. 194 with Rebate. wait bout 3 or so months and youll get a cheaper price.

I ordered the 9800 gx2 but it was defective. Returned it but they were out of that card to replace so I upgraded. It was twice the price but it's the best card you can buy right now and I don't regret it at all.

It IS the best card for gaming on the market right now. I don't know what you mean by how it stacks up.

I personally don't think any ONE piece of hardware is worth $500 (or $300 for that matter) or more unless my life always/mostly involves it whether or not i have the funds for it.

However from a gamers perspective i'd say "go for it" If you will be gaming on a 24" or larger monitor at 1920 x 1200 res or higher and have a Intel core i7 system that will not bottleneck the card as well as not being greatly impacted financially by the purchase then i think you should just buy it now. Even when new competition arrives from ATI, it would have to be an AMAZING card to force nvidia to drop the prices by a medium margin. I'm guessing the price drop will be some tiny margin of it's current price (as shown from 4870x2 price drop when new gtx285/295 were launched and recently) so yea, "go for it" the GTX295 is the best thing around for gaming at this moment.

PS: you could build my system for less than $500 (without mouse, monitor, etc) :o:D

depends on your moniter, i'm probably going to drop down to a single gtx 285, because i'm going to game on a 24" moniter, i would say go for dual gpu solutions at a resolution of 2560x1200

Unless you're running a 30" monitor, the GTX 295 beats the 4870x2. The 4870x2 does have a bit more RAM, which shows when you're running huge resolutions like 2560x1600.

Unless you want to get stupid high benchmarks, a 285 is all you need.

I have a factory clocked 285 and nothing makes it slow. I'm fixing to OC it though, just because I can.

I have had the Gtx 295 for a short time, used it in a new I7 build. It plays very well.Only game I have played on it is Stalker Clear Sky so far, but it plays maxed settings smooth at 1920 X 1200.I guess you could wait awhile and see if the prices drop some.I dont even think I will run 2 at this point .I am very pleased in performance(I came from a 6 year old P4 agp 7600 gs computer so it was a huge step up ).Also
if you are playing at 1400 X 900 it would probably be a waste though at that res.

Yah I have the Evga overclocked edition. It dropped 50 bucks and price since I ordered it and it has been discontiuned. Talked to newegg and I was told i could return it so at this point i was thinking of the 295. Thanks for your guys imputs.

I have a XFX stock clocked 285 and I have it OCd to Black Edition specs and it's awesome. Mix that with my i7 OC, 6 GB Ram, and it makes games it's bitch.
