Tom Clancy Games Don't Work on Vista

Hi

I've gone and installed Vista (ouch, yeah) and while I've accepted that Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory and Splinter Cell: Double Agent don't work, I'm still curious as to why.

One theory I have is that because these games are only compatible on XP (as far as the latest versions go) the programmers perhaps wrote a line of code that checks to make sure that the game is being run on the right OS version.

My pc should run the game perfectly (it did before the upgrade) and running the game (right click>properties) in Compatibility mode doesn't work, I still get the same error telling me that it will only run on XP.

Finally, to run the game(s) I'm guessing I could install XP on another hardrive. So if I have Vista on drive C, and my games and back ups on D, I'd probably need to get a new drive to install XP on. Any easier solutions similar to the DOSBOX that runs DOS games?

:(That's weird. Didn't double agent come out not just awhile ago. It shoul be Vista capable. Look at system requirements and if all else fails overwrite your current OS with a new partition and install vista again. Same thing happened to me and that fixed it for some reason. Partitions make me sick...

hey; chaos theory works on vista... i play it sometimes. u need to be a rogue and basically *vanish* then *sinister strike* then *backstab* starforce... u level up if u do it aswell. ;)

I've tried running as Administrator and everything. Double Agent only works on Windows XP only. As for Chaos Theory (which is the one I'm really keen to play) I think it may be problems with the installation because it doesn't work even when I run it as an admin. I'll just reinstall it or else install XP on another hardrive next time I upgrade.

Thanks everyone :)

couldnt you run it in compatibility mode for xp?

*edit* just read your post fully. never mind haha

I tried that but when I press ok and try opening the game I receive the same error. I'll just reformat one of these days, except I have a lot of games that I lost the CDs for. I'll probably get another hardrive, I think there are some old installation files lurking around confusing it. Maybe... Sims 2 won't install either (and yet I ask myeslf time and time again why I even want to install it for 2 hours of character and house customisation and 5 minutes of actual gameplay).
