Too complicated question for a simple title

Hello everyone!

I am here to ask very complicated question:
(HD=1920x1080; UHD=3840x2160)

Let's say that I want to buy a laptop that has a screen with resolution of UHD and for example NVIDIA GeForce 980M graphics card. Some games can run slowly because of the big resolution screen. Now let's say I go to the graphics settings on my laptop and set the resolution to a lower one, from UHD to HD.

If I set the resolution from UHD to HD will my laptop behave and perform equally fast as a laptop that has physically built in HD display, or would it be still a little bit slower?

Games will play better at lower resolution but how much better then UHD, who knows. You can also turn down the video card settings.

There won't be much of a difference if any between a stock HD laptop vs. UHD set to HD resolution, and yes games would run much faster with HD than UHD with the same graphics settings. So it's up to you if you want UHD with maybe lower graphics settings or HD with higher graphics settings and higher frame rates. Desktops are much faster though, like a desktop with a GTX 980 would perform much better than a laptop with a 980m.

Setting a UHD display to 1080p will have the same performance as a native 1080p display. Gamers often do this for two reasons, one being performance, and the other that when playing certain games like FPS/shooters, at such high resolutions you need incredible precision to get that fast headshot, and the target is much smaller for you to see than on a lower resolution display.
