Too hot of a Temperature?

Hey,

I just built a new computer with a P4 2.8Ghz CPU, and it seems to run very hot. RIght now, with just a web page open, its running at 65C. Is this really hot?? WHen i start it up, it can get up to 74C.

I'm starting to get worried. People say that this one runs warm, but am i risking frying the CPU?

WOuld getting a new fan help a lot??

THanks

seems very high.......touch the heatsink and see if it burns you, if its not to hot then it might just be a bad temp guage

Use MBM,PCWIZARD, etc and see if it reads differently, if temp. reading is what you said it is then reseat the heatsink, be sure to apply a thermal compound like AS5 which is a good brand of thermal compound.

well, i took off the heatsink then put it back on, and now the average temperature is around 52-55. Is that much better??

Also, maybe tomorrow i am going to buy 2 new fans, one for the rear, and there is an intake fan port directly over the CPU, im gonna put one there. Hopefully that would improve it.

Yea it's Prescott. Right now ive just been letting it sit with the case open, its idling at 45.

Its seems to be running musch cooler, but i might consider getting a new heatsink fan, like the artic cool tower one.

Ya prescott-478s are a serious pain when it comes to dealing with heat lol ... id have a look at the Thermaltake Polo735
