ok then i can return it. Anybody know a 480-500W supply that is reliable but quiet?
As has been said above and i +3 it, corsair. They are a little more expensive, but power supplies are probably the main component where the "cost=quality" is affected the most.
I had the power supply that was built into my case when i bought it for a year or so and then upgraded my RAM and added another video card. Even the the PSU was 750W (it said -.-) it ended up blowing under strain, even though my rig only uses about 550W. I googled the PSU, and found, no word of a lie right here, it was worth about £8...for a PSU that can just about power a dual core, single card 2GB single HDD system but is probably the least efficient PSU in history.
Unfortunately i can't post it up, i can't remember the make and threw out the busted PSU shortly after it went pop, after salvageing the 120 mm fan out of it and mounting it on my case

.
A couple of days later after some research i bought an 850W corsair PSU. It is silent even though it is on about 60% load, which is where it is most efficient, about 87% efficient. It cost me a fair bit, £120 for the unit+P&P, but it was such a good buy. Comes with 5 year warrenty but i am almost certain it will outlive that. They do them as low as either 350W or 400W i think, and obviously these less powerful ones are quite a bit cheaper, so you can get one that is more than sufficient for alot less than £120 (in US dollars thats about $171.42 at the current exchange rate).
