Too many files!!

I have a laptop with only about 20GB stored on it, yet when my computer scans for viruses, it takes litterally ALL DAY since it has over 8 million files to scan!!

My desktop has about 65Gb stored on it but only has 250,000 files, which is normal.

Why do I have so many files on my laptop? The laptop itself runs fine, but there is so much space taken on disk compared to how little I store on it.

Are there hidden files somewhere on my C: ?
I have reinstalled Windows once before and it seemed like there was an unusual amount of space taken immediately after reinstallation.

yeah could be 8 million pornographic pics.

office setup files has alot of files as well as your recovery prarition if you have one.

I can't have my Norton scan 8 million files and take 8 hours to do so every time I want to perform a scan! That is the real reason for my question, but it doesn't seem natural to have so many files on a computer with only 20GB of space used.

I think I have a similar software on my system...Windows Registry Pro, but I think that this one might be more extensive and comprehensive. I will give it a try.

Thanks!

maybe norton scans also the archive and image files(maybe inside all the .rar .zip .iso .daa ..... files that you have.)
i think this the reason.

do you think you have many of them?

in norton go to options>system>manual scan> the choose "scan with SmartScan",
click on personalize button and remove the extension that you dont want to scan(iso. or ...) and then ok .

My only concern is keeping my system secure. I have a hard time eliminating anything from a scan.

I just wondered why there are so many files on my system to begin with. It doesn't seem normal.
