Top Models and Brands

Being an amateur gamer I have no idea which graphic cards to look at out of the hundreds on newegg. There are so many different models and then there are like ten different brands that make the same models. I am looking for spend about $200 for the best video card I can possibly get for gaming. I have an open PCI Express x16 slot and nothing else. Could someone recommend the top 5 models of video cards and the top 3 brands that make them at around my price range. Why are some brands better than others? I do know a little bit about the model differences thats to Video Card 101 on this site but other that that I have no clue what I'm looking for.
