I have a toshiba A60 laptop and the cd & dvd drive has suddenly stopped working.

When I open the cd tray and then shut it the yellow light on the drive flashes but then the cd's are not recognised and the drive seems to stop.

Can anyone tell me whats happened or help me fix it.

Thanks

By saying they arent recognized, do you mean that when you put them in an option screen comes up for the disk? Or do you mean that you can't find them in My Computer either?

Well the drive just seems to stop working after the yellow light flashes. For example if I try to install a game then I put it on the cd tray and close it, the yellow light flashes but then nothing happens. Normally there is a constant green light when the cd drive is in use but now there is nothing.

See on all the laptops I've used, the light seems to go off after a bit and on some you can do a setting where you can shut off the feature of having a screen/action take place when you put in the disk. For example, on my desktop, when I put in a CD a screen pops up asking what i want to do, but if you click a box that says Always Take This Action and click Take No Action for your selection, it'll always do nothing when you put in a disk. Therefore you'd have to go to My Computer and access the disk from there.

The cd/dvd drive no longer appears in my computer. I recently downloaded new bios so I am not sure whether this has affected it. Its as if the computer no longer recognises the drive is there.

Then you might want to go into your BIOS and see if it is set up correctly. It might not even be set up on the BIOS since you just downloaded a new one, so go into that and see if it is on there.

There is a master and a slave setting, make sure that your cd player is in a slave setting with your HD in a master setting.
