Toshiba Satellite Laptop DVD-R Upgrade Help

My tenant has a Toshiba Satellite laptop that is older and came with a CD-R/DVD Rom drive and I have a number of parts from old Toshiba laptops including a CD-R/DVD-R disc drive.

She wants to be able to burn DVD's and I have no use for the spare drive so I thought it would be nice to give it to her!

I installed the drive into the laptop and booted up, and it recognizes it..it plays CD's, DVD's, burnt DVD's but will not copy/burn to DVD-r's

What do I need to install to make it fully functional? Driver? software?.etc

Thanks.

Do you have a model from the drive you could post here? EIther look on the drive or check through a program like PC Wizard. I'm just curious about the specs of the drive because you shouldn't need to install anything to make it work.

Is there software installed that will burn to dvd's. If not, windows has no native dvd burning software. You would need Roxio, Nero, or something similar.

It is an H/L Data Storage Inc. (Hitachi/LG)

Date: August 2006

Model # GMA-4082N

It came out of a Toshiba Satellite P100 - series

And I'm tryin to put it into a Toshiba Satellite A70 - series

InterWin DVD is on it, as is Sonic...both crap, I know but this is an old machine and its running Windows XP Home 32-bit!

Should I delete those and just try downloading nero or something?

Also, when I look at computer--the drive is listed only as CD-R Drive, device manager shows no issues, and something called RAMASST pops up and says something regarding enabling the CD-Write Function? no matter if I do or not it makes no change!

..thanks for the help thus far guys!!

You could give deepburner a shot; it's free and burns to DVDs quite well. However, that is very strange. The drive is certainly a DVD-RW.

K, I got it going now..damn thing was being restricted by some lame ass Toshiba software that made dvd read only..

I deleted that...redid nero9 and its totally fine!

I'm gonna be doing win7 to it tomorrow anyhow..but thank you for your advice and input!
