hi, recently brought a second hand toshiba satellite, second hand, not to new but it will do what i want it to and it was cheap so im pleased :D but i have found two problems:
1) it came with a 30gb external hardrive but when it plugs into the laptop (through the USB port) a error messege comes up in the bottom right corner saying power surch on hub, then dosent let me use it. i no the hardrive works because i have used it in my other computer and it is fine, i no the USB port works as i have tried other things in it (the archos and the tomtom although both of these have there own battery, the hardrive would need to charge of this). wondering if this problem could be fixed?

2) the screen is very loose on it, it will stay up but only in two places anywere else it will fall down, in only just about tays up in them places. can this be fixed or is it a were and tear thing i will just have to live with?

thanks in advance.

What OS do you have on the toshiba ? does the external hd have a power supply or does it use power from the notebook, if just from the notebook , the notebook usb does not make enough power.

Either your screen hinges need replacement or more likley the screws that hold them to the monitor needs tightening, go here and see if they have a free service manual

you might have to copy and paste into ur browser

i have toshiba satellite. both hinges broke on it. i had the option of getting them fixed for $150 but i didnt bother cos it wasnt worth it.

found one for 6000 pro so downloaded that as mine is 4300 pro. might just give me a basic idea. the harddrive is powered from the USB so as you said, i presume i just canot use it with the laptop as it sucks to much power :( im not to good with computer terms so by OS i presume you mean operating system? if so it is windows xp with service pack 2 if that helps.
will have to have a look at the screen o and kuzba, will remember that and deffinetly try not to brake them.

cheers

bad news im afraid, the hinges are broken :( so need to get a new pair. so anyone know of were to get them? and also would love a guide of how to correctly take it apart (that guide did not work properly, said i needed a disc) i now how to just take the bezel of the front but dont know how to get to the other part of the hinge, presumably you need to take the bottom off. i would like to know as i desperatly dont want to damage it.

if i were you i would take it to a professional.

because its a laptop and probably easier to just ask someone to get in the hinges and install them.
