I started to use my old laptop again. It seemed weird but Malwarebytes did not detect anything. Since my old antivirus subscription was expired and I was not able the free Avast antivirus to load, I downloaded the free microsoft antivirus. It installed and did the check, said it laptop was infected and it needs to restart. So it did but never come back. The computer kind of starts but windows never open. Is it possible to fix this or is the computer dead?

Unfortunately I do not know what exactly was deleted. I tried to restart it in a safe mode and choose the last configuration that worked, but it does not do it. It seems that it affected Windows on the computer. I am not worried about any lost files or anything, just want the computer to be working. I was trying to put an Ubuntu cd and maybe use it instead of windows, but I cannot get it work either.
